Elk Ridge Lodge

Elk Ridge lodge sits atop a beautiful Appalachian Hills mountain. At the base of the mountain is a paved driveway entrance. A large, massive log structure with iron security gates stands on guard to insure the privacy of the lodge and grounds. The gates are electronically controlled by a numerical keypad. Guests are provided the current code prior to arrival. The code is changed frequently.

The driveway proceeds through the entrance gate and gently winds up the mountainside among a variety of lovely flowering shrubs and bushes, such as mountain laurel, honeysuckle, azalea, hydrangea, and rhododendron to name only a few. The driveway passes a five acre lake formed by a creek that flows through the property. The lake, which is home to local ducks and geese, and plenty of good size fish, overflows down a very impressive stone waterfall.

First time guests to the Elk Ridge are generally speechless upon arrival, and rightly so. The Elk Ridge Lodge is a masterpiece of design, ingenuity and construction. The builder is a true master at his craft and one of only a very select few capable of the vision and talent to construct a home of this magnificence. The driveway continues past deer trails and a tranquil countryside to the lodge which has two drives. The first drive veers to the right and arrives at the back of the lodge and the garage doors. The second drive to the right arrives at the front of the lodge. The grounds are impeccably landscaped and maintained and the lodge is surrounded by handsomely laid stone and masonry walkways. The front and rear drives along with a two car garage provide ample parking.

At the top of the front porch steps are two huge log roof supports that have unique carvings depicting playful black bear images. The front entry door is solid wood that has a superbly hand carved image of a grand elk. The foyer has the first of many stunning custom crafted lighting chandeliers fashioned from a variety of authentic Elk, Deer and Moose antlers. Some of the pieces were located in various parts of the western U.S. An inviting arched log entrance leads from the foyer to a spacious great room with a 25 foot ceiling. The logs are genuine Canadian western red cedar and douglas fir. The beautiful tongue and groove ceiling is ash and the distinctive floors are distressed hickory. Photographs can not adequately capture the rustic elegance of this remarkable structure.

The furnishings are all very high quality and most pieces were custom designed specifically for The Elk Ridge Lodge. The great room furnishings are appropriately arranged around a large, natural stone, floor to ceiling wood burning fireplace. Not many things can surpass a chilly evening in the Elk Ridge Lodge great room with an enchanting, natural log fire. It must be experienced. The fireplace mantle is custom crafted from a select piece of distressed red cedar. The mantle is a perfect setting for two hand carved wooden bears. An elegant elk mount with enormous antlers is appropriately hung over the mantle piece. To complete the ambiance, an incredible elkhorn chandelier is suspended over the center of the room.

A highly respected sculptor of wood wildlife carvings was commissioned to create, on site, exclusive, custom renderings throughout the lodge. Of the many, one of a kind productions, the great room has three large log ends that have unusual images depicting a mother bear and two cubs. French doors lead from the great room to the main level outside decks and breathtaking views. The view of the Appalachian Wilderness Lake and miles of gorgeous mountain ridges is an incredible site to behold.

Adjoining the great room is wonderful dining area with seating for 8 to 10. A nearby kitchen bar will accommodate an additional three. The large, fully equipped gourmet kitchen is appointed with top of the line stainless steel appliances and surrounded by lovely granite countertops and an abundance of high quality hickory cabinetry.

Great effort has been given to provide all of the kitchen amenities that could possibly be required.

The entire main level is laid out to provide a wonderful open setting to compliment any gathering in a setting that will make any visit a memory to cherish for a lifetime.

Two of the master bedroom suites are located on the main level at opposite ends of the lodge for complete privacy. One of the suites is a charming, cozy room with rich, fine quality furnishings. A comfortable king size bed is complimented by matching night stands, chest of drawers and entertainment cabinet. This unique suite has an inviting sitting area with a table and chairs surrounding a cozy fireplace. Lovely french doors lead to an outside deck where a hot tub for eight is situated to relax and enjoy the marvelous sunsets and scenery.

The bath is a luxurious room with stone masonry and wood walls, ceilings and floors. The double vanities have most unusual and stunning amber colored and lighted lavatory bowls. All of the cabinetry in all of the bathrooms was custom designed and hand crafted by one of the few skilled artisans capable of the quality and detail found in Elk Ridge. The full size tub has a second fireplace built into a stone wall at one end of the tub. A lovely enclosed shower completes the room.

The second main level bedroom suite is located at the end of a hallway leading from the foyer area. One of the lodges two 1/2 guest baths is located in the hallway convenient to the entire main level. The second main level suite is a queen suite with open high ceilings and large windows. The suite has a set of french doors leading to a lovely lake view deck. The spacious private bathroom is appointed with a large jetted tub, fully enclosed shower and vanity sink.

A staircase leads from the main level to the upper level loft. The loft has an open lounge area with comfortable furniture and a sleeper sofa. A wonderful outside private balcony is situated through french doors off of the loft lounge. The balcony has outstanding views in every direction. The loft also has a spectacular view overlooking the entire great room and dining area.
A set of elegant beveled glass french doors lead from the loft lounge to a third bedroom suite.

This suite features a marvelous custom crafted log, king size poster and canopy bed with a exquisite built in bench. The bedroom is immense. Another set of beveled glass french doors lead to a full bath with enclosed shower, separate vanities with designer fixtures and a lovely jetted tub next to a window with an unbelievable view of the lake and mountain ridges.

Another wide staircase leads from the main, to the lower level and two more bedrooms. One of the bedrooms is furnished with comfortable twin beds. The second lower level bedroom is another large, king size suite with a full private bath. The bedroom has a set of french doors that lead to a covered stone patio area.

Between the two lower level bedrooms is an unbelievable recreation room featuring a regulation pool table, card and game table comfortable lounge seating area surrounding a full size wood burning fire place and a full service wet bar. Another set of french doors also lead to the lower level covered stone patio. The recreation room is appointed with stunning custom crafted furnishings and appointments throughout. Another half bath conveniently adjoins the rec room. The recreation room itself is a fantastic room for enjoyment and entertainment. However; A large set of double doors lead from one end of the recreation room to a spellbinding, full movie theater.

The theater has a 106 inch screen, DVD player, HD satellite TV receiver and a powerful tuner/amplifier that provides professional, commercial quality surround sound for DVD and TV movies and CD and tuner audio. Audio is provided in all rooms throughout the lodge with individual controls. All audio/video equipment is remotely controlled and located at the rear of the theater.

Outside wood decks are wonderful for taking in the locations natural beauty. The view of the Appalachian Lake is indescribable from many vantage points throughout the Lodge, however it is absolutely splendid from the main level rear deck. The decks are fashionably furnished and an outstanding setting for socializing and relaxation. In keeping with the goal to provide the ultimate vacation experience, a great cookout area is situated in a great location for casual grilling, dining, parties and hanging out. The area is covered and has a large gas grill and marvelous wood picnic table and chairs.

Naturally, the lodge has a wonderful large hot tub suitable for 8 with ample room and comfort. The hot tub is located on a deck just outside of one of the master bedroom suites. This deck is the very best for the observance of sensational sunsets. A country hollow is within a short distance of the lodge and provides a fun trek down the hollow to the lake where all sorts of water activities await.

Even the most well traveled and discriminating will be duly impressed by the Elk Ridge Lodge. Many places may have perhaps a few similar appointments and features as the lodge, but most likely none will have all, nor an atmosphere to approach the grandeur of the Elk Ridge Lodge.
